RAIA: St Jude’s High Scool, Betalbatim scored a narrow 1-0 win over Manovikas English High Scholl to move ahead in the U-14 Subroto Mukherjee inter-school Salcete Taluka boys football tournament organized by DSYA, at Manora ground, on Sunday.

Bethany Convent HS, Sao Jose de Areal, Our Lady of Snow’s High School, Raia, Bhatikar Model High School, Margao, St Joseph’s Education Institute, Chandor, Fr Agnel Multipurpose High School, Verna and Auxilium High School, Benaulim also progressed into the next round.

The all important goal of the match for St Jude’s HS, Betalbatim was scored by Johnathan Fernandes while in another match Our Lady of Snow’s HS of Raia scored 3-1 tie breaker win over Mae Dos Pobres HS of Nuvem. 

There was no score at regulation time. In the ensuing tie-breaker Reyes Cruz, Shawan Fernandes and Rick Fernandes scored for OL Snow’s HS while only Melcio Coutinho shot at the target for Mae Dos Pobres HS. 

Later in the day, a goal by Anrique Fernandes helped Auxilium HS defeat King’s HS, Sao Jose de Areal.

At Fatorda ground, St Joseph’s Educational Institute, Chandor defeated Assumpta Convent HS of Sarzora by 3-2 margin. Rayan Menezes, Ashwell Piexote and Drayan Fernandes scored for St Joseph’s EI while Dylan Fernandes and Adriel Mendes accounted for Assumpta Convent HS. 

Fr Agnel Multipurpose HS, Verna also advanced with 2-0 win over St Joseph’s HS, Aquem. Francisco Fernandes and Sandesh Velip were the scorers for the winners. 

In another match, Bhatikar Model HS thumped Crescent HS of Fatorda 5-0 while Bethany Convent HS also registered a solitary goal win over St Rita’s HS of Maina. The all-important goal of the match was scored by Vicky Diwale.
